May Activities
- Storyteller, Pat Speight, visited the JCA students on Thursday 4th May to tell stories and sing songs.
- Our TY’s visited DCU Open day on 4th May while on 2nd May they took part in the three Counties Tug of War Championships in Portumna.
- Some TY students participated in a Music workshop over the last few weeks in conjunction with Music Generation Offaly. This project was kindly funded by the Arts Council. Huge thank you to Geraldine for helping organise the project.
- Sports Day was held on Friday 19th May for all students. There were a range of activities including multi sports, tug of war, tag rugby, spike ball and athletics. Winners of each year group were 1A, 2C, 3A,5B and 6D. Well done to all who participated!
April Activities
- In Basketball, our Second Year Girls recently won their semi final 38 points to 3 at home against Coláiste Naomh Cormac . Player of the Day was Kayla Hogan.
- In Basketball, our First Year Girls recently won their semi final 35 points to 11 at home against Coláiste Naomh Cormac . Player of the Day :Caitlin Cooney.
- On Thurs 20th the Banagher College U-14 Girls Football Team which played Gallen CS today in a friendly.
- TY Tour to Italy from 17th-20th April
- Banagher College First Year Boys Soccer Team recently overcame Kilkenny CBS 5-2 in the Quarter Final of the Leinster Champions League Division 2 for First Years in Birr. Among the Scorers were Liam Mulhare, James Slevin and P J Dolan.
March Activities

- On Wednesday 29th our school hosted the @awards4selfie Irish Digital Schools Awards. Banagher College was honoured with the 2023 European Digital Schools Award for our digital achievements along with other schools, 8 from which were LOETB Schools.
- On Wednesday 29th our camogie students played in the DCU Sevens Cup Semi Final at 12.20pm. Full time Banagher College : 9-0(27) Castlecomer CS : 2-0(6). Banagher College : 14-0(42) Loreto Kilkenny Number 2: 6-0(18) Congratulations Girls. A first ever win for Banagher College in the DCU Sevens.
- FAI Schools West Leinster League Final for First Year Boys. Well done to Banagher College on winning 6-2 v Roscommon CBS in Athlone on March 28th.
- On March 27th Banagher College played in the Leinster Minor B Camogie Quarter Final :Result Banagher College : 3-1(10) Mountrath CS : 5-9(24).
- 1st year Boys Hurlers played on March 24th. Full time Banagher College : 4-10(22) St Joseph’s Rochfortbridge : 4-5(17)
- On Wednesday and Thursday 8th & 9th of March 1A and 1B and their TY Cairde Leaders went to The Planet Activity Centre in Athlone for the annual First Year Outing.
- Well done to Ailís Malone, accompanied by Miss Minnock, as she received her Individual Garda Youth Award tonight in the Killeshin Hotel Portlaoise.
- On 23rd March our 5th Year Students enjoyed their In-School Retreat, facilitated by Mike, Hilaria and Niamh from “An Tobar Nua”.

- Second Year Girls Basketball : Hard luck to our Second Year team who narrowly missed out on a place in the Midlands D League Semi Final today when they lost out 19-17 to Coláiste Chiaráin Athlone in the Quarter Final.
- Second Year Boys play in their Hurling Round 3. Full time score Banagher College : 1-8(11) Coláiste Mhuire Mullingar : 6-17(35).

- South Leinster Junior Boys Football Semi Final was played on March 6th. Full time score Banagher College: 1-10(13) Gallen CS: 4-8(20). Hard luck!
- On the 5th of March Banagher College TY students were presented with their Microsoft Office Specialist certificates in Word during the week. Students at Banagher College complete the Microsoft Office Specialist program during their TY year. Well done to all.
- On March 4th MFL students enjoyed a talk today by Sinéad from Aventuro Ireland about the benefits of partaking in a foreign language student exchange.
February Activities
- On Tuesday Feb 21st our Robotics team competed in the VEXRobotics Final in Tullamore. Well done to the group on a record-breaking performance by a Banagher College team – who also happen to be the youngest team at the competition!
- Our Second Year Boys Basketball Team played Killina SS in the Third Game of the Midlands D League in Banagher on Tuesday 21st Feb.
- Leaving Cert Mocks finished on Friday 11th Feb. They enjoyed some WellBeing time after they finished their mocks.
- On Feb 10th 5th year ag science students had a really informative talk today at Gurteen College.
- JCA 3 were busy making Crepes before mid term!
- On Feb 10th Second Year Hurling played St Brendans Birr in Round 2 : Full time Banagher College : 3-6(15) Birr CS : 3-11(20)
- Our First Year Camogie Girls will play a challenge game v Gort CS on St Rynagh’s Pitch on Feb 10th also.
- Urban settlement Model making-well done 2C and 2D who made a model of city functional zones before mid term. Thanks to Mr. Boyle and Mr.Darcy for the offcuts of wood. See pictures in Gallery.
- Before mid term 1st Science class presented their imaginary dream planet with main focus on sustainability and renewable sources of energy. See pictures in Gallery.
- On Feb 9th our 1st Year Boys are played Kilbeggan this morning on the Banagher United Pitch.

- 5th years engaged with the Jigsaw “My Mental Health, What Helps?”talk in early February.

- Congratulations to our boys who played in the North Leinster D Boys Football Quarter Final. Full time score was Banagher College : 1-5(8) Oaklands Edenderry : 1-4(7).
- 1st Year Parent Teacher Student meetings took place on 1st Feb.
January Activities
- U19 Badminton Championship took place on 26th Jan in Baldoyle accompanied by Mr. Lonergan.
- First Yr Football played in the Brother Hubert Cup Round 1 against Mountmellick on 26th January.
- on 25th January our TY’s travelled to Moate to Ger Carey’s Comedy Show.
- TY’s completed a First Aid course. Thanks to Ray Murphy from “Horizon Training”.
December Activities
- Leinster PP Schools Sen A Hurling on Sat 10th December : Full time Offaly Schools : 3-25(34) Dublin North Schools : 0-11(11) Offaly Schools will now play St Peter’s College Wexford in the Quarter Final
- On Tuesdsay 13th December our TY’s participated in a Product Development Workshop with Garry Lowe, Whizzkids in conjunction with the student enterprise programme run by Offaly Local Enterprise Office.
- Congratulation to Banagher College 5th Year Student Aishling Foley who completed “Leadership For Life” journey. She was awarded a Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action with First Class Honours.
- Well done to our Carol Singers who performed outside SuperValu on Friday 9th December. Almost €600 was raised in aid of St. Vincent De Paul. Click here to see them in action!

- Well done to our 2A class will held a Bake Sale at Break Times in school Thursday December 1st with all proceeds going to the Peter McVerry Trust.
- Junior Boy’s Football match was played on 9th December. Final score: Mountmellick CS: 8-6 Banagher College :4-11
- On the 1st Dec our Senior Camogie team played Trim in the Leinster Senior B Camogie Championship Rd 3: Final score Banagher College : 1-8(11) Scoil Mhuire Trim: 2-13(19).
November Activities
- REMINDER: Closing date for Application for Admission to Banagher College closing date is Friday 25th November.
- On the 30th Nov Banagher College played in the North Leinster Junior B Hurling Shield Final: Full time Banagher College : 3-25(34) Coláiste Choilm Tullamore : 2-4(10). On behalf of Comhairle Laighean, Mr Paddy Scales presented the Junior B Hurling Shield to winning Banagher College captain Niall Flannery after the final.

- STAND UP AWARENESS WEEK – November 14th – 16th. It is a time to ensure everyone knows that biphobic, homophobic, and transphobic language and bullying will not be tolerated. Choose words that heal, not hurt. It is an annual campaign run by Belong To, which gives second-level schools the opportunity to celebrate and recognise their LGBTI+ community.
- On Tuesday 15th Nov Banagher played Clonaslee College in the North Leinster PP Schools Sen D Football Rd 2: Full time Banagher College: 4-7(19) Clonaslee College: 1-8(11)
- Our TY classes participated in a retreat in Castletown on the 15th and 16th November.
- Members of our Headstrong Committee participated in a training session on 14th November. Their message to our school community is to “Be Brave, to Reach Out and to Speak Up”.
- On 9th Nov LCA 1 and LCA 2 went to Birr Outdoor Education Centre to participate in some outdoor activities. A great day was had by all!
October Activities
- Kindness week from 24th Oct -28th Oct. Some thoughts to consider: Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about, BE KIND ALWAYS.
- In preparation for the Digital Schools Award, some of our teachers and students attended the LOETB Hackathon in Portlaoise Education Centre on Oct 25th. The students and teachers had a really productive day brainstorming with other schools on ways to improve the use of digital technology in our school.
- In the Leinster Junior B Camogie Championship, Banagher College won against Trim on 26th Oct.
August /September Activities
- Evening Study will begin on Monday September 19th and will take place Mondays to Thursdays inclusive, from 4pm to 6pm. Application Forms now available in school. Contact Mr. Drennan for more information.
- Our 6th years went on their geography trip to North Clare on 22 Sept as part of their leaving cert course work.
- Our students participating in the German exchange set off for their trip to Germany on Wednesday 14th September. Among the places they visited were Tegelberg Mountain, Alpsee, Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles, Munich, and Füssen.
- Some leaving cert students visited the Higher Options Career and Colleges Exhibition on 21st Sept. Its a great opportunity to consider options for next year.
- 5th and 6th year Art students visited Newgrange and Brú na Bóinne on Wednesday 21st Sept.
- On 21st Sept, some TY’s also enjoyed a TV and Film Animation Workshop with Julie Forrestal.
- On Monday 19th Sept the LCA Hair and Beauty class were delighted to welcome a past pupil today, Edel Flynn, from Nakid by Sharon Leavy in Tullamore. She spoke to them about Skin and Nutrition, Salon and Customer and the Importance of Sun Protection.
- 4 of our students travelled to Lourdes as volunteers with the Oblate Youth Service. Katie, Amy, Cathal and Cormac participated in many events including taking part in a candle light procession and singing in the choir in the underground Basilica.
- On 15th September TY’s completed the first 15km of their Gaisce hike in Shannon Harbour.
- TY’s started off the term with a visit to Birr OEC for team building activities on the River Shannon, on 6th & 7th of September. See photo gallery for photos.
- On September 13th and 14th TY’s participated in a Drumming Workshop with Mark Jerome. Lots of fantastic rhythms created.
- Our Leaving Certs had a talk today from Caroline Duggan NUIG.
- 1st years participated in a fun quiz organised by the Cáirde leaders and teachers while the day before the Cáirde leaders also organised fun activities outside. Well done to all.
